28 Soufriere Residents Graduate from Spanish Language 1 Course
“I am very happy with my performance and eagerly look forward to complete all eight (8) levels”, said Helena Jongue, top achiever at the recently concluded Spanish Language Level 1 Course run by the Venezuelan Institute for Culture and Cooperation in collaboration with the Soufriere Foundation.
In a small graduation ceremony held at the Sulphur Springs Park Interpretation Centre on Tuesday 31, August 2010, at which the Venezuelan Ambassador to St. Lucia, His Excellency Eduardo Alfonzo Barranco Hernandez and the Board of Directors of the Soufriere Foundation were present; the graduants who are the first from Soufriere to undertake this course, were congratulated for their outstanding performance. “You have done well and so we have gathered here to celebrate your excellent performances”, said Soufriere Foundation General Manager, Dominic Alexander. He added, “This training programme is just one of many that the Soufriere Foundation intends to fund. Our vision statement speaks to being …a financially viable organization contributing towards the development of the community’s human resources…and so these programmes are but one out of a multipronged approach to achieving our vision.”
During his brief remarks, the Venezuelan Ambassador to St. Lucia also congratulated the graduants. He urged them to remain true to their dream and assured them that with continued persistence they would succeed. Ambassador Hernandez also informed the audience that, “It is the Consulate’s intention to make the programme, at all levels, more accessible to you and for that reason, my staff will be exploring the possibility of continuing the programme by video conference. In that way, you will be able to undertake the programme simultaneously with your Castries counterparts.”
The Soufriere Foundation intends with the assistance of the Venezuelan Institute to commence level 11 in mid-September. The organization is also preparing to launch its new website, www.soufrierefoundation.org, on September 15, 2010. The new website will feature information on the town’s history, geology, people, attractions, accommodation, etc. The website also includes information on the organization and its work.
