About Tet Paul Nature Trail

View from tet paul nature trail

The Tet Paul Nature Trail is nestled on six acres of lush, verdant land in the farming community of Chateau Belair. The trail is located in the Piton Management Area, Saint Lucia’s World Heritage Site. Hiking the trail is like soaring heavenward on a beautiful, natural staircase. The hike is rated easy to moderate and is roughly 45 minutes long. The trail boasts some of the most spectacular views of the South of the island, the Jalousie Bay, Petit Piton and Gros Piton as well as Martinique and St. Vincent on clear days. The first stop is at the Kaye Kassav (Cassava Hut) where the Amerindian traditional art of farine and cassava production can be learned. The gentle ascent features nature at its best with a variety of exotic fruit trees, (e.g. guava, soursop, avocado) as well as medicinal plants and trees. The Traditional House takes visitors back in time to how our fore-fathers lived. The Tet Paul Nature Trail is undoubtedly the gateway to heaven.

The Tet Paul Nature Trail is 100% dedicated to providing a tourism operation that offers our visitors a return-to-nature experience- allowing them to enjoy the beauty, purity, tranquility, history and culture of Soufriere and surrounding communities, as well as ensuring attractive returns to shareholders; revenue, jobs and training opportunities to residents, while contributing to the long-term protection of the cultural and environmental heritage of St. Lucia for future generations.

History

The Tet Paul Nature Trail represents the true essence of community tourism. The construction of this nature trail was guided by a very unique and consultative process, in which residents were involved at every stage of product development and implementation. Our employees were recruited from amongst the residents of Chateau Belair. They were professionally trained and are certified in delivering First Aid and CPR.

Management

The SOUFRIERE FOUNDATION manages the Tet Paul Nature Trail with the support of the Tet Paul and Chateau Belair Tourism Association.

The Tet Paul and Chateau Tourism Association comprise seven individuals; six of whom are residents of Chateau Belair as well as one representative from the Soufriere Foundation. The Association was registered on December 23, 2008. The two organizations continue to work closely to ensure the successful management of the site.
